Q1: A Few of My Favorite Things

Question 1: What are a few of your favorite things?

I'm starting with this one because I just got back from Teen's Camp with our church (which was so good).  I am tired, and this question is fairly easy, so it works. But how many is 'a few'? :)

Let's start with the obvious answers: God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit.  I know, churchy answers, but true nonetheless.  Next is, surprise surprise, my family: Kristina my wife, Hannah my daughter, and Ethan my son.  And after that would be the rest of my family: Mom, Dad, Grandparents, Uncles, Aunts, Cousins, In-laws, and so on.  In that vein, I would also include all of my friends.  But enough with people; after all, people are not 'things'!

So, a few of my favorite things.

Things I have: Books (the medium of my favorite hobby, see below).  My wolf blanket (a gift I received years ago, a fleece blanket with the picture of a wolf on it).  My computer (it does everything, how could it not make the list?)
Things I consume: Chocolate (Mmmm!), Steak (No meal is a meal without meat, and steak is the king of meats), "The Usual Suspects" (best movie ever, or at least the most entertaining), "Star Trek" (the first two are my favorite, but all of them are good.  Plus you can use them to explain culture shifts; how cool is that?)
Things I do: Reading (My favorite hobby, and I have a job that lets me do it even more :), Swimming (clears my mind, and its fun), Hiking (God's creation is so beautiful, and the effort that it takes to see some of it only makes the reward all the sweeter), time with friends and family (Don't need to say much here, except that I know a lot of awesome people).

Nothing like starting with an easy one. What are a few of your favorite things?

Leaving aside sentient beings such as family (which as you say are not things), my favorite things are deep theorems in mathematics that are provable by elementary means. For example:

My list of Favorite Things looks a lot like yours with slight variances and different names on some of the people. I would add to your list - golfing and take off chocolate. :)

Another favorite is a few greeting cards that I have saved over the years. I say saved because I do not "collect" in that I don't keep them all but have a select few that have been my favorites for various reason. The #1 being a card that was given to me for my
40th birthday and had my family doubled over with laughter before I had opened it. It goes like this:
A cheery thought on your 40th birthday...the yellow-breasted cockatoo lives approximately the same number of years as a human being. Charlie here is exactly 40 years old today. when you open the card Charlie falls out of the tree dead. This is my favorite because whenever I re-read it, even 16 years later, I relive the fun and laughter we had together when it was given. These little mementos are memorials to relationships that I treasure.

One thing i have noticed is that my priorities have changed since becoming a Christian.

Before coming to Christ my favorite things included my money, food, my stereo system, my playstation console, my hockey card collection and of course sporting equipment and memorabilia.

Now since becoming a Christian my favourite things still include sports obviously but also include such things such as the bible, listening to music via my radio and mp3 player, my laptop, worshipping God, doing devotions, spending time with loved ones and friends, my canucks gear, spending time to try to make the world around me a better place for others, and being active by doing fun activities.

As you can see material things such as money still matter to me as does everyone now but are not my favorites and highest priorities anymore and i thank God for changing that in me.

A song i was listening to today on my way to school titled "Breaking My Heart" from Robert Pierre really spoke of How God has changed and continue to transform us little by little every day.

The song lyrics are below and i'll let u read them or i strongly suggest you take a listen because it's one of my favourite songs.

Lyrics: Breaking My Heart from R. Pierre

Lotta things I loved
I don't love much any more
Lot of dreams I've dreamed
Don't mean what they did before

Only You know what I need
Yeah it's true
You're changing me

Breakin' my heart
Breakin' my heart
a little more every day

I love how You are
Breakin' my Heart
In a beautiful way

Lotta life I've lived
I don't want to live again
Gonna give all I am
Cause I don't want to be who I've been

So I stay on my knees
And I pray that You'll keep

Breakin' my heart
Breakin' my heart
a little more every day

I love how You are
Breakin' my Heart
In a beautiful way

Nothing's the same
Now I can see
How tenderly

You're breaking My Heart
You're breaking my Heart

Breakin' my heart
Breakin' my heart
a little more every day

I love how You are
Breakin' my heart
In a beautiful way

And those are some of my favorite things. God Bless!
